PENN-UPRH Partnership for research
and education in materials
Education
Undergraduate and High School Research
|
Our previous experience demonstrates that research activities stimulate the intellect, creativity, and development of new skills among students. Those who have the opportunity to work in a research environment are properly socialized and equipped with valuable information to select graduate school and research topics. This activitie allow us to continue providing research opportunities for the students and to increase the number of minorities with advanced degrees in materials science related areas. |

Student and Faculty Exchange
|
PREM faculty and UPR students are expected to participate in the Summer Program at PENN every year of the grant period. The experience of living on campus, practicing the English language, and working as a member of a large research group has proven to be valuable for PREM students. In subsequent years they feel more confident when seeking summer research experience at other institutions and graduate schools on the US mainland |
Curricular Improvement with Integration of Research Topics in Courses |
New materials research topics are integrated in required and elective courses, including Senior Physics Laboratory, Numerical Analysis, and Biotechnology. The Physics Freshman Seminar continues integrating PREM seminars and videoconferences. |
Seminars, Videoconferences and Minicourses |
The MRSEC continue to provide seminars and lectures by PENN faculty, post-docs, graduate students, and staff members to UPR undergraduates. The live videoconferences complemented the lectures by UPR faculty and visiting scientists. The research and education partners will also use for group meetings. |
